Dateline: May 30, 2019
The Athens State University Alumni Association hosted the 28th Annual Golf Classic on May 23. The event, held at Canebrake Club in Athens, raised approximately $20,000 for student scholarships. The generosity of golfers, donors, and volunteers helped fund student scholarships ranging in amount from $1,500-$4,000 annually.
Prizes were awarded for the following:
- 1st Place Championship Flight – JJ Donahue, Keith Ferguson, Oliver Carlota, Archie Brown
- 1st Place First Flight – WHNT (Stan Pylant, Heather Carlton, Jimmy Skipworth, John Cowan)
- 2nd Place Championship Flight – Athens Primary Care (Tracy Ingle, Charlie Vines, Alex Mahlik, Anthony Wallen)
- 2nd Place First Flight – Gerry Donley, Tim Lye, Walt Powell, Larry Thomas
- Closest to the Hole: David Phillips
- Longest Drive: Spain Reese
The 2018-2019 golf scholarship recipients were Brian Conway (Management), Megan Daly (Elementary Education), Jacey Gilbert (Collaborative Teacher K-6 – Special Education), Stephanie Harruff (Health & Wellness Management), Gregory Johnston (Logistics & Supply Chain Management), Charles Meadows (Physical Education), Victor Alonso Nava (Computer Science), Brandon Palmer (Accounting), Brett Vance (History), and Amber Williams (Health & Wellness Management).
