Mark your calendars for the 2019 Homecoming Celebration: Friday, July 26 through Saturday, July 27
Athens State University hosted its annual Homecoming Celebration and Summer Commencement on Friday, August 3 and Saturday, August 4, 2018.
A dinner celebration officially kicked off the Homecoming festivities on Friday evening, where over 300 alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends of the University were pampered to a complimentary meal of classic Southern dishes and enjoyed music from the Grammy-nominated Beatles tribute band, “The WannaBeatles.” During the band’s intermission, guests were invited to take a tour of the Fiddlers and Delmore Brothers Museums, both located on the bottom floor of McCandless Hall.
The following morning, the Summer Commencement ceremony was held. A crowd of family, friends, and well-wishers gathered in front of Founders Hall to celebrate and recognize the Class of 2018. The graduates were joined by members of the Class of 1968, who participated in the ceremony as inductees to the “50 Year Club” as a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the class’s commencement.
Both events were sponsored in part by the Athens State University Alumni Association. Next year’s Homecoming celebration and summer commencement are scheduled to take place on July 26-27, 2019.
